Magnotta has been arrested in Germany, following a world-wide
manhunt, according to authorities.
Police in Montreal, where Magnotta was wanted for dismembering a
Chinese student, said they have been notified about the arrest
but have no specific details at this time.
"We have the information. Were verifying [the details] right
now. a spokeswoman told The Huffington Post.
Interpol issued a statement Monday afternoon that stated
Magnotta was captured in the German capital.
"Interpol congratulates all of the authorities and its National
Central Bureaus in Canada, France, Germany and elsewhere for
their collaborative efforts which led to the rapid arrest of
this wanted individual," said the Head of Interpols Fugitives
unit, Stefano Carvelli.
Police in Montreal, believe the 29-year-old, low-budget porn
actor carried out a brutal murder last week, which he allegedly
recorded and uploaded to the Internet. The victim has been
identified as 33-year-old Lin Jun, a student at Montreal's
Concordia University who was reported missing on May 24.
Authorities in Canada had issued a countrywide arrest warrant
for Magnotta and he was added to Interpol's list of wanted
persons. Magnotta faces charges of first-degree murder,
committing an indignity on a dead body, publishing obscene
material, mailing "obscene, indecent, immoral or scurrilous"
material and criminally harassing Canadian Prime Minister
Stephen Harper and several unnamed members of Parliament, police
said.
Investigators believe Magnotta initially flew to France from
Montreal after committing the murder. Brigitte Kuster, mayor of
Paris's 17th district, said Magnotta was caught on surveillance
video at a restaurant and possibly a hotel in the city over the
weekend.
"He was captured by surveillance cameras at the cafe," Kuster
told CBC Montreal. "But at the hotel, he wasn't visible because
he was wearing a hat."
